What to Expect
THE PLAN!
Physically, you should be able to link several days in the mountains, including 4 to 6 hours of touring per day at a steady pace, without pushing beyond your limits. You don’t need to be a racer, just comfortable keeping a regular rhythm.
Ideally, you should be comfortable skiing on groomed slopes and handling a variety of snow conditions at an intermediate level (confident on red runs). You don’t need any previous experience with ski touring or mountaineering.
Because this is a beginner course, we take the application process seriously to make sure everyone in the group has the right foundations and can progress safely and enjoyably together.
If you’re unsure whether your skiing level or fitness is suitable, don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’d be happy to chat :)
This camp is about discovering the mountain environment in winter, learning the basics of ski mountaineering (skinning uphill, transitions, route choice and safety), and gaining confidence to move safely in the backcountry.
our week
-
Thursday 10 — Arrival in Chamonix
Arrive at 14:30, then meet at Simond at 15:30 for a store visit, equipment fitting, and an introduction to the guides. We’ll go through the weekend’s plan together and answer any questions. -
Friday 11 — Learn the basics
Our first day in the mountains will focus on crampon and ice axe techniques, rope work, and glacier travel. We’ll practise moving on snow and ice, with time to repeat the techniques and get familiar with the equipment. -
Saturday 12 — Put it into practice
Using what we learned on Friday, we’ll head a little higher onto the glacier. Along the way, we’ll learn more about route choice, mountain conditions, and how the guides make decisions. We’ll finish the day at a mountain hut for dinner and an overnight stay. -
Sunday 13 — Practise and head down
After breakfast, we’ll spend some more time practising before making our way back down to Chamonix.
